How to Choose Between Products, Services, and Custom Invoice Lines

1. Use a saved Product or Service when you sell the same item repeatedly - selecting it from the Item dropdown auto-fills the description, price, and tax.
2. Use a custom line when the charge is one-off or unique - type directly into the Description and Price fields without selecting an Item.
3. Both line types post to your reports the same way once the invoice is Approved.

In practice, leaving the Item field blank on a custom line may trigger an "Item is required" validation message when you try to finalize the invoice - type your custom description and price, and if prompted, select or quickly create a matching item before finishing.
