How to Add Notes or Terms to an Invoice

Notes and terms let you communicate important information to your customers directly on the invoice: payment instructions, context or explanations, and terms…

Notes vs. Terms

Notes are short, context-specific, and informational (e.g. "Thank you for your business."). Terms are formal, reusable, and policy-related (e.g. "Payment due within 15 days.").

Steps

  1. Open the invoice (new or existing) in the New Invoice / Edit Invoice screen - the invoice will be in Draft status.
  2. Locate the Notes field and enter any message specific to this invoice.
  3. Locate the Terms field and enter your formal payment or contractual terms.
  4. Continue completing the invoice, then finalize using Save as Draft, Approve, or Save & Send (see "How to Create Your First Invoice" for the correct finalize terminology).
